Short notes on Action Research 1st week class

Action - something done
Research - an investigation systematically (collect and analyzed data) to establish facts or knowledge about something

So, action research means investigations carried out systematically to establish facts about a problem or current situation so that an improvement act can be done to address the particular matter. An action research is also useful for professional development.

The process of action research are;
1) Identify problem
2) Literature research
3) Decide the methods of research
4) Collect and analysis data
5) Discussion and implications of the results
6) Report the research

Action research can be divided into four types;
1) Individually – a research carried out by a teacher individually. Example: The usage of mnemonic techniques to memorize taxonomy level of certain plant species.

2) Colaborative – a research carried out by more than one teacher, or cooperation with an outsider, such as university lecturer. Example: The usage of songs to enhance students’ English vocabulary.

3) School level- a research carried out in one school. Example: The usage of pictures and videos of students’ activities in PIBG meeting to attract involvement or attendance of parents to PIBG meeting.

4) District level – a research carried out at different schools in one district. This might involve teachers at every school. Example: the usage of certain webquest in boosting form 5 students’ knowledge in certain topic of Biology.
